Room For The Whole Family: 1984 Chevy Suburban

Room For The Whole Family: 1984 Chevy Suburban

Need tons of room but can’t stand the idea of a mini-van? We’ve got the solution for you! This 1984 Suburban has a claimed 52,000 original miles on it. There’s room for the whole family and the dog too. This truck has been well preserved in Haleyville, AL.

This truck looks to be in reasonably good shape, which helps make the mileage believable.  The paint looks fair, though there there appears to be some body damage near the rear passenger-side door.  The truck wears wheels of a later Chevy truck, but we think that they look pretty good on it even if not correct.

It’s hard to tell from the shots of the interior, but the dash appears to be in good shape with no obvious cracks.

The interior is the original blue cloth interior. As with most GM vehicles of this vintage, the cloth interior has not aged particularly well, but it does seem presentable.

There are no shots of the engine bay or of the underside. The seller doesn’t specify which engine this truck was equipped with, but any of the three available gas engines will have reasonable power output to the automatic transmission. Any of the three (305, 350, or 400) would also be fairly easy to upgrade for improved performance.

For fans of these old trucks, this looks to be a great one.  We’d give it a good cleaning and drive it as-is.

Nice Benz Project: 1981 380SL Convertible

Nice Benz Project: 1981 380SL Convertible

Get an early jump on summertime with this project convertible.  The seller says that he/she purchased it as a project and had it running. The car isn’t presently running because of the removal of the tank and fuel pump, presumably as part of refreshing the whole system.

The seller doesn’t give us many photos to evaluate, but the ones that are included seem to indicate a very solid body. Of course, with a car that’s 36 years old, either more photos would be advisable. Or, better still, an in-person evaluation of the car would answer any and all questions.

The seller also mentions that they have purchased a number of new parts for getting this car back on the road.

Fuel pump and filter
Battery
Brake pads
Brake Rotors
Both rear brake calipers
All new rubber brake hoses and system flushed
Air filter
Two new rear CV shafts

The seller doesn’t mention if these components are only included in the sale or if they have already been installed (hopefully the latter, but you never know).

Unfortunately, there are no interior shots provided. Hopefully it will be in as good a condition as the exterior seems to be.  All in all, we think that for the $2000 ask, this could be a worthy project that could provide tons of summertime fun.

Early Pony Car: 1965 Plymouth Barracuda

Early Pony Car: 1965 Plymouth Barracuda

The pony car wars are still the stuff of one part legend, one part engineering, two parts horsepower, all to add up to 100 percent fun!  Coming out of Petersburg, TN is a 1965 Barracuda project.

The engine is the typical 273 V-8, rated from the factory at 180 hp. The seller says that the motor and transmission are “good.” Hopefully, that means that they are both in working condition and will need little beyond normal maintenance befitting a 50 year old car.

The slot mags are not terrible (in our opinion), but if we could source a set of period correct Mopar rally wheels, that would really make it cool. The seller states that the brakes will need a thorough reconditioning, though we would probably take the opportunity to do a disc brake conversion while we’ve got it apart.

The paint is in tired shape, so a respray is in order to bring this beauty back to all its glory.

The glass, including that marvelous rear fastback glass, appears to be in good shape. It looks as if a few pieces of the trim may be missing, but there is a large and thriving on-line Mopar community that can help with that.

The interior will need complete restoration or replacement.  However, the seller does indicate that the floor pans are solid, though we would like to see a few shots of the underside.

This year, make, and model are definitely on our wish list. Someone will have a great start on a project.  The seller says this was an Alabama car, and as such, they do not have a title, but are sold on a bill of sale.  Make sure you check with your state’s DMV about what it will take to get this hot rod legal.

These cars are getting tougher to find and the prices have been climbing in recent years.  Don’t miss out!  Let us know what you think of this project car. Find it HERE on Craigslist in Petersburg, TN for $5500.

Drop Top Fun: 1977 MG MGB Running Project

Drop Top Fun: 1977 MG MGB Running Project

This little motor seems like it would be a great start for a new project.  Quite a bit of work necessary, but it seems like someone could get a pretty nice start for not a ton of cash.

The 1.8L in-line 4 is said to be in running condition with some recent work performed.  The seller states that the engine has had a Weber carb conversion performed, but that the original SU-HS 4 carbs are included, but will need a rebuild. The seller states that the hydraulics and brakes have been refreshed and a new fuel pump and regulator were installed.

0214_00103

The car is equipped with a hard top, but the seller states that a new, uninstalled soft top and tonneau cover are included.

0214_00106

The car will need some metal repair, especially on the driver’s side, but overall the car is claimed solid, despite some slight outer lower fender rust around the wheel wells.

Also listed are a number of spares included with the sale as well as a number of other items that the purchaser will get first shot at purchasing, including Miata seats, new steering wheel, some motor dress up pieces, as well as a complete carpet kit.  Many other items are also available and are listed in the ad.

We think that this would make a great father/son (or daughter) car.  It’s a great start and could yield years of motoring fun for not a ton of cash.
